About Lucy Moses School
*
Located in the Abraham Goodman House at the Kaufman Center, the Lucy Moses School is one of the country's largest community arts schools, serving 2,400 students from the age of six months through adulthood every year. Music for the Very Young classes are for children ages eight months to four years (with child alone or with parent/caregiver). Morning and afternoon sequences are available.
*
Courses include: Musical Babies, Musical Ones, Music For Toddlers, Music and Movement, Group Piano, Suzuki Violin, Cello, Flute, Dalcroze, Pre-Ballet, and more. The goal of the Music Program is to foster a lifetime love of music in a nurturing educational environment.
*
Private and group instrumental and vocal instruction are supplemented with comprehensive theory, composition, and Dalcroze programs. Wind, string, vocal, and mixed ensembles include numerous opportunities to perform. Suzuki violin, cello, and flute lessons are offered to children ages four to seven.
*
Young Musicians Concerts are held on Sundays throughout the year in the Ann Goodman Recital Hall. Students also perform in concerts at area community centers, schools, and religious centers. Private Lessons of 45-, 60-, or in some cases 30-minutes per week are available for piano, recorder, guitar, and most orchestra instruments.
*
In the school's Dance Program, classes for boys and girls are offered in Ballet, Theater Dance, and Jazz, for all levels from beginner to advanced; class sizes are kept small. The Ballet Company is an ensemble for advanced students performing original, traditional, and contemporary choreography. All students, except for the very youngest, appear in annual dance concerts in Merkin Concert Hall.
*
The year-round Theater Program is highlighted by Summer and Winter Musical Theater Workshops which combine courses in acting, improvisation, and movement, and culminate in full-scale productions of original musicals written by the children and faculty.
 *
Other courses include Drama Club, Musical Theater Workshop, and Teen Acting Workshop. Vacation programs are offered during the winter break and in summer.
*
Winter break camp is for kids ages six to 11. Fees and schedules are listed on the website.
 *
Summer Musical Theater Workshop runs during July and early August for kids ages six to 15, at a fee of $1525; dates are listed on the website. Work/study internships are available for kids ages 16 to 18.
 *
The School is non-sectarian, serving a diverse New York City population, and observes the Jewish calendar.
